4 FCA Models Receive Top Honors for Active Lifestyle Vehicle Competition! Recently the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, Dodge Durango SRT, Jeep Compass Trailhawk, and Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn Southfork earned top honors in their categories at this year’s Carspondent.com Active Lifestyle Vehicle (ALV) awards. The awards were determined by a panel of automotive journalists and professional athletes who evaluated cars, crossovers, SUVS, and trucks in nine categories. The models won in the following categories:

“FCA US showed up at ALV with a lineup of vehicles geared specifically to the needs of outdoor enthusiasts and as a result, took home more awards than any other manufacturer,” said program co-founder Nina Russin. “The Jeep Compass Trailhawk lived up to its promise of true off-road capability, traversing a challenging course that tested its directional stability and wheel articulation. The Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn Southfork edition proved that a vehicle designed to work and play hard can also deliver luxury. Cyclists were impressed with the interior capability of the new Chrysler Pacifica and appreciated its stylish exterior. And everyone loved the Durango SRT’s raw power: a wolf in sheep’s clothing.”

Chrysler Pacifica, Ram 1500 and Dodge Durango Named Best Buys! Recently, Consumer Guide® Automotive awarded the Chrysler Pacifica, Ram 1500, and Dodge Durango with the 2018 Best Buy distinction. The editors for Consumer Guide Automotive analyze, compare, and evaluate numerous vehicles be extensively testing all the major models available in the United States and are distinguished by being affordable as well as having positive ratings.

FCA Files Trademark for "Cuda" Name

FCA Files Trademark for “Cuda” Name

By | Chrysler Car News, FCA News | No Comments

FCA Files Trademark for “Cuda” Name! A few months ago we excitedly reported that Jeep is working on bringing back its beloved Jeep Wagoneer but according to new reports, FCA might have plans to bring back the Barracuda. The Plymouth Barracuda, originally built from 1964 to 1974, was a muscular two-door car and the original pony car, predating the Ford Mustang by a month. The Plymouth Barracuda, which was housed under the Chrysler brand, still enjoys a fairly fanatical following from American performance car enthusiasts.

Although Chrysler’s branding has changed over the years, many rumors suggest that FCA could introduce a new Barracuda branded as a Dodge, which is now known as the performance car division of FCA. The automaker already filed for rights to the Barracuda name in 2015, but they also recently filed a new application for the common abbreviation “Cuda,” sparking more rumors that a revamped Cuda is on the way. Some rumors believe the new Barracuda could essentially be a convertible version of the next-generation Dodge Challenger, which is expected around 2020.

Chrysler Autonomous Vans Spied During Testing

By | Chrysler Car News, FCA News, Jeep Car News | No Comments

Today’s news features exciting headlines from both Jeep and Chrysler. Read on to learn how these two very different brands are evolving under the Fiat-Chrysler umbrella which includes: Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Maserati.

Chrysler Autonomous Vans Spied During Testing

We’ve reported on the exciting new venture between Chrysler and Google that will see 100 Pacificas re-engineered to be self-driving. Currently, Google’s self driving fleet consists of 24 Lexus RX450h SUVs and 34 Google-designed prototypes, but with the addition of the 100 Pacificas, Google’s fleet and testing have already passed 2-million miles after just 7 years on the road. The first six minivans arrived at Google’s Mountain View facility, with some already having installed mounting systems and another two equipped with sensor suites. The group at Electrik alludes that the new equipment on the Pacificas are much smaller than the same equipment on the Lexus RX models, meaning the technology is evolving toward more commercialization.

In other FCA news, Jeep has seemingly revealed a look at the upcoming Grand Wagoneer (furthest right) and confirmed that the new 2018 Jeep Wrangler (second from left) will stick closely to the current styling. The lighting signatures show five upcoming vehicles; however, the new Compass is not shown. The vehicle believed to be the Grand Wagoneer shows seven LEDs per headlight on either side of a widened seven-slot chromed grill. For the rear, the horizontal tail light also features seven LEDs across a widened tailgate. The Grand Wagoneer is expected to ride on a stretched version of the next-generation Grand Cherokee platform, with plans for the model to rival a Land Rover in luxury and price (which could top $140,000).

FCA Considering Selling Subsidiary to Samsung

FCA Considering Selling Subsidiary to Samsung

By | Chrysler Car News, FCA News | No Comments

According to USA Today and reporter Nathan Bomey, FCA is considering potentially selling one of its suppliers, Magneti Marelli to Samsung. Samsung is looking for an entry into the world of vehicle electronics and infotainment, while FCA is looking to pay down debt. In April, CEO Sergio Marchionne, shared with investors that there “will be at a point where it no longer needs to rely on … an internal supplier” and “we’ll be in a position to take a hard look at this to find out whether it makes sense to continue Marelli in the portfolio.” For now, FCA continues “to rely on Marelli now to provide a lot of technical support in terms of the development of our portfolio.”

Walter P. Chrysler

In Memoriam:

Tomorrow marks the 76th anniversary of the death of Walter Chrysler. In 1875, Chrysler was born the son of locomotive engineer in Kansas. At the age of 17, he began working as an apprentice in a railroad machine shop quickly working his way up to plant manager for the American Locomotive Company. Chrysler first became interested in automobiles at the 1905 auto show in Chicago where he borrowed $5,000 to buy his own car, which he completely dissembled and reassembled before ever driving it. In 1911, Chrysler became a manager at Buick Motor Company. Within five years, he had become the company’s president, making Buick the strongest unit of General Motors. In 1925, Chrysler became president of Chrysler Corporation, a marriage between the former Maxwell and Chalmers car companies. In 1928, Chrysler took over Dodge and introduced the Plymouth, becoming one of the Big Three American automakers. Many recognize Chrysler for the Chrysler building in Manhattan which was completed in 1930. Interestingly, architects used elements from Chrysler automobiles including radiator caps, hubcaps, and stainless steel meant to evoke the shine of a car. Walter Chrysler died in 1940 after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage at 65 years old.

Jeep Sales Are Up 42%

By | FCA News, Jeep Car News | No Comments

Fiat Chrysler has just announced that their sales are up for the 69th consecutive month, 13% up this past December as compared to December 2014. This increase to 217,527 units sold is the company’s best December sales level in 90 years. Furthermore, sales are up 7% for the full year. Jeep sales alone skyrocketed 42%, with Jeep Compass sales up 78%, Cherokee SUV sales increasing 36% and Grand Cherokee sales increased by 22%. These sales have set a 27th month consecutive record and a total 89,654 units sold  in December alone. Dodge and Ram both experienced minor increases in sales for December, 6% and 4% respectively.

This increase has also led FCA to win the Canadian auto sales title for the first time in its 90 year history. This title comes mainly from the stark increase in Jeep and Ram sales, with December sales for the automaker rising 1.6 percent to 21,961 vehicles for the two brands. FCA as a whole enjoyed a 1.1% increase in the Canadian market. David Buckingham, FCA Canada’s COO said in a statement, “2015 marked our best sales volume in our 90-year history.”

FCA Teams Up With Disney and Star Wars

FCA Teams Up With Disney and Star Wars

By | Chrysler Car News, Dodge Car News, FCA News | No Comments

HotWheels-Uber-Dodge-Charger-0Fiat Chrysler has teamed up with Disney to promote the Fiat 500 Abarth, Chrysler 300 and Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This follows the brand’s marketing with movies Fast and Furious 7 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2. Seven 30 second video spots, which feature FCA vehicles set in the Star Wars universe will air during primetime television slots, such as during NFL games. The joint promotion began in New York in September with free Uber rides given in a Storm Trooper wrapped Dodge Charger (pictured left) and the display of the custom painted Fiat 500e Stormtrooper (pictured above) at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show in November. The free Uber rides were given as a joint promotion between Hot Wheels, FCA, and Disney to promote the Star Wars line of Hot Wheels toys coming out in support of the movie. According to Hot Wheels, the Dodge Charger was chosen because it “embodies the look and feel of the Hot Wheels Stormtrooper diecast car and is sure to turn heads when traversing on the streets of NYC on Force Friday.” The fleet consisted of eight cars which provided free rides if the code HOTWHEELSFF was used. The Fiat 500e Stormtrooper is “inspired by the armor of the First Order Legion, with a two-tone black and white custom painting of the car body.” Check out the first of the seven spots here:
