The Dodge Demon SRT Highlighted in Best of What’s New for 2017

The Dodge Demon SRT Highlighted in Best of What’s New for 2017! Recently the Dodge Demon SRT changed the Dodge line when it debuted at the 2017 New York International Auto Show, revealing an impressive 840 horsepower and 770 pound-feet of torque, that brought the racing world, movie industry, hip-hop and auto industry together on stage for one unforgettable night. The Demon is barely street legal, hitting 60 mph in an impressive 2.3 seconds, and is the fastest production car in the world.

Now the SRT Power Chiller, which uses the car’s air conditioning refrigerant to help further cool the air entering the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI® Demon V-8’s cylinders, was recently named in Popular Science’s best of What’s New for 2017. Cooler air contains more oxygen molecules, helping the engine deliver maximum output of 840 horsepower with 100+ high-octane unleaded fuel.

“Creating a street-legal machine that is powered by an engine with unrelenting power and torque, specifically engineered for the drag strip, yet street legal and meeting all emissions, pass-by noise and SRT durability standards demands outside-the-box thinking,” said Chris Cowland, Director of Advanced and SRT Powertrain, FCA US LLC. “The technologies that make lower-volume SRT products special can deliver significant benefits in alternative applications. For example, while denser intake air and high-octane fuels are part of the recipe that makes the Challenger SRT Demon a head-turner, they can be just as important in meeting the challenges of improving fuel economy.”

How the SRT Power Chiller works

The 6.2-liter HEMI Demon V-8 uses a dedicated liquid circuit, separate from the engine cooling circuit, to cool air after it leaves the 2.7-liter supercharger.

The SRT Power Chiller is enabled in Drag Mode from the SRT Drive Mode controls. When activated, air conditioning refrigerant is diverted from the cabin to the chiller unit.

The supercharger charge air coolant passes through a low-temperature radiator at the front of the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon then flows through the SRT Power Chiller unit, where it is further cooled by the refrigerant. The chilled liquid then flows through heat exchanger units in the supercharger housing, cooling compressed air as it enters the intake ports. Cooler air is denser, containing more oxygen molecules per volume than warm air. With more oxygen entering the engine, adding more fuel produces more power.

Dodge Challenger and Charger To Use Maserati Platform

Dodge Challenger and Charger To Use Maserati Platform

By | Dodge Car News | No Comments

Dodge Challenger and Charger To Use Maserati Platform! According to recent reports, the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger may be switching to the Maserati platform after remaining on the Chrysler LX platform through 2019. For 2021, the models will move to the Ghibli’s platform. The Chrysler LX platform is due for an update after remaining static for the past 15 years, although it hasn’t been revealed what FCA’s exact plans are for that model.

Initially FCA had planned to redesign the LX-based cars on the Giorgio and Giulia platform, but the company seems to be switching gears to the Ghibli platform. According to LeftLaneNews, the 2019 update will focus heavily on reducing the weight of the models and improving fuel economy. An update for the Dodge Durango is also expected around this time.

The Dodge Viper Makes New Nurburgring Attempt!

The Dodge Viper Makes New Nurburgring Attempt

By | Dodge Car News | No Comments

The Dodge Viper Makes New Nurburgring Attempt! We’ve reported before that the Dodge Viper is set to be a classic after its ceased production and the plant has officially closed. Now we are excited to report that a group of Viper enthusiasts are determined to see the Viper succeed at the Nurburgring. They are attempting to make a new lap record, with the second attempt seeing a slight improvement over the first one. The team, made up of pro-racers Dominik and Mario Farnbacher, is hoping for a sub-7-minute lap time after posting the slightly improved time of 7:03.23.

Art of gears explains one challenge that might explain the barely improved time, “The Road & Track coverage says that the extremely high temperatures at Nurburgring, Nordschleife could be the reason for the negligible improvement. The Dodge Viper cars being used for the record attempt are running on Kumho tires and the intense tarmac heat isn’t helping in any way to post a superior lap time. A total of 16 tires were consumed by both cars as the sun mercilessly cooked the rubber shod on the wheels.” Check out the full video below:

By | Dodge Car News | No Comments

2019 Ram 1500 Spied Before Debut! Perhaps not as bad as celebrity photographers, but still adept at the art of getting spy shots, automotive photographers have been busy this week. New photos from a variety of publications, including trucks.com, show that the 2019 Ram 1500 may be getting some slight updates.

The main excitement is over the interior which is expected to feature FCA’s 8.4 UConnect infotainment system as well as a redesigned instrument cluster and steering wheel, which give the Ram a more modern look and feel. The model is confirmed to debut at the North American International Auto Show, held in Detroit in January of 2018, appears to have a larger cabin than previous models. New headlights are also apparent on the model.

Dodge Viper Plant Will Close Next Month

Dodge Viper Plant Will Close Next Month

By | Dodge Car News | No Comments

Dodge Viper Plant Will Close Next Month! We originally reported that the Viper production would cease writing, “Amidst on-going negotiations between UAW (United Auto Workers) and FCA (Fiat-Chrysler Automotive) it has been revealed that the Dodge Viper will cease production in 2017.  The original Viper first went into production in 1992 (pictured left) and had three more updates (1996, 2003 and 2008) before Chrysler’s bankruptcy ended its run in 2010. A redesigned version debuted in 2013, but a big price increase and improved competitors hurt sales. Through this September, only 503 Vipers were sold in the United States and only 760 were sold the year before. The Viper is built at the Conor Avenue plant in Detroit where 80 employees assemble the sports car by hand.” In light of this, we also shared how the Viper would become a future American Classic Car collectible, but now we are sharing that the Dodge Viper plant will officially close by August 31.

According to reporting by AutoBlog, the plant that produces the model, the Conner Assembly Plant located in Detroit, will be closing on August 31. The car had hand-built been produced there since 1995, except from 2010-2013. The Prowler was also built there from 1997 to 2002. Currently, more than 80 workers build the Viper at FCA’s smallest assembly facility. Only 630 Vipers were sold last year and the Viper can’t comply with new safety requirements going forward. Luckily, the workers will receive positions at other plants.

2018 Dodge Durango SRT is America's Fastest SUV

2018 Dodge Durango SRT is America’s Fastest SUV

By | Dodge Car News | No Comments

2018 Dodge Durango SRT is America’s Fastest SUV. According to USA Today, pricing for the 475-horsepower 2018 Dodge Durango SRT will start at around $65,000. Tim Kuniskis, head of passenger car brands, North America, FCA, calls the new performance 2018 Durango a toy-hauling, three-row muscle car that is America’s fastest SUV. The model gets an impressive 0-60 in 4.4 seconds, completing the quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds and certified by the National Hot Rod Association.

To help celebrate this all-new performance model, Dodge is giving buyers the opportunity to take a free one-day course at the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Chandler, Ariz. Dodge hopes this will help owners learn the full driving capabilities of their new SUV which is powered by the 392-cubic-inch Hemi V-8. The model is expected at dealers at the end of this year.

“This is what you get, when you take everything great about the Durango and combine it with the performance of the Charger SRT,” Kuniskis said in the news release.

Behind the Making of the Dodge Demon

Behind the Making of the Dodge Demon

By | Dodge Car News | No Comments

Behind the Making of the Dodge Demon! Recently, we shared that the Dodge Demon is the fastest production car with an impressive 9.65-second quarter-mile and 2.3-second 6-60 time, but now we are excited to share more about the making of the Dodge Demon. According to information reported by The Detroit News, the model used to be referred to as the “American Drag Racer” and was planned to be the short distance equivalent to the Dodge Viper. The top secret project was purposely given the name “Benny” (named for Chris Cowland’s favorite “Top Cat” cartoon character)  to prevent news about the development from being released. The Demon got its production green-light in September of 2015.

“Our mantra was ‘nines-with-light.’ It had to run under 10 seconds and it had to pull the front wheels,” Kuniskis explained to media at M1 Concourse on Thursday, six weeks after its jaw-dropping Big Apple debut. “Why? Because nobody had done it. And if you do it, then the Camry buyer reads the headlines and say, ‘They just built a car that pulls a wheelie. Now you got my attention.’ Every two weeks we would have a meeting. And every decision was driven by ‘nines-with-light,’ ” Kuniskis says. The money set designated for the interior money got repurposed into the transbrake and a chiller.”

Dodge Demon Police Concept is A Dream Come True

Dodge Demon Police Concept is A Dream Come True

By | Dodge Car News | No Comments

Dodge Demon Police Concept is A Dream Come True! Recently Max Goldberg of the Drive shared an article about a photoshopped Dodge Demon Cop Car. When we originally reported on the new Dodge SRT Demon we shared, “Last week the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon debuted at the 2017 New York International Auto Show, revealing an impressive 840 horsepower and 770 pound-feet of torque, that brought the racing world, movie industry, hip-hop and auto industry together on stage for one unforgettable night. The Demon is barely street legal, hitting 60 mph in an impressive 2.3 seconds, and is the fastest production car in the world. The car will be exclusive, with only 3,300 being built and sold in North America.

Tim Kuniskis, the head of passenger car brands for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, said, “This is a car unlike anything we’ve ever done. This car, for the people who race it, who build it and develop it will share that pride across more than a track. Demon is another halo that will transcend a core group of enthusiasts.”

Many local police forces do utilize the Dodge Challenger as their preferred vehicle, but they rarely use true performance models. This photoshopped dream Dodge Demon would be equipped with normal patrol car gear like lights, a push bar, steel wheels, and decaling. Although the Dodge Demon may prove too expensive for many agencies, Dodge does currently offer two very capable patrol vehicles–The Dodge Charger Pursuit and Dodge Durango Special Service– which have upgraded suspension, wheels, alternators, and minor interior modifications that better suit the law enforcement community.
